Green Technology Center co-hosts 2016 International Green Island Forum

- GTC seeks a climate change adaptation strategy under the theme of “Carbon-Free Islands & Smart Green Cities” 



From March 21 to 22, the Green Technology Center (GTC) co-hosted the 2016 International Green Island Forum with the International Green Island Forum, the Urban Design Institute of Korea, and the International Electric Vehicle Expo at the International Convention Center, Jeju.


  The International Green Island Forum aims to strengthen networks between various Global Green Island stakeholders such as local government officers, green technology companies, and domestic and international environmental experts focusing on green islands and cities, and to share green island policy and development cases to foster continued efforts for the sustainable coexistence of humanity and nature.


  This Forum was held under the theme of “Carbon-Free Islands & Smart Green Cities.”  


  In his welcoming speech on the first day, GTC President Changmo Sung said: “With the Paris Agreement, it is time for Korea to prepare a substantive plan to set its goal of a 37% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions against 2030 projections. [...] I hope that the International Green Island Forum gives practical solutions to climate change.” 


  In session two on the second day, GTC Director General HyunWoo Shin presented on a microgrid overseas expansion strategy, introducing analysis of microgrid advancement strategies and activities as a platform for global expansion as well as on GTC’s current participation in the UNFCCC Climate Technology Center & Network, based on a microgrid overseas diffusion strategy recently conducted by the GTC for the Korean Prime Minister’s Office for Government Policy Coordination.


  Meanwhile, from 2014, the GTC has co-hosted the International Green Island Forum, in order to promote the forum`s vision of "preservation of island characteristics and coexistence between humanity and nature."
