Hyundai CMK Foundaion – Green Society Project

Hyundai CMK Foundation established a support system for small- and medium-sized climate tech companies and startups through cooperation between industry and academia, and supported up to KRW 6.3 billion for the commercialization of nine projects over three years. Appointed as Climate Change Response Agency

Under the Article 15 of the Act on the Promotion of Climate Technology Development for Responding to Climate Change*, GTC is designated as a "Climate Change Response Agency**" to support international cooperation focusing on technology development and transfer, and implementation of national climate technology specialists training policies * Act on the Promotion of Climate Technology Development for Responding to Climate Change: The Act was promulgated in September to systematically foster and develop climate technology research on reducing greenhouse gases and adapting to climate change, and to promote international cooperation for responding to climate change timely ** The official name of the organization dedicated to climate change response: Green Technology Center 'National Climate Technology Cooperation Center' Center Overview (Center Objective) Contribution to implement 2050 carbon neutrality and achieving NDC(Nationally Determined Contribution) goal as a national policy think tank laeding international cooperation and human resource development in the field of climate technology. (Main Role) Support for international cooperation focusing on climate technology development & transfer and establishment and implementation of national climate technology specialist training policies. Major tasks 1. Establishment policies and strategies for international cooperation in response to Climate Change - Support for establishing policies to promote technology-finance linkage and overseas expansion of domestic climate technologies - Support for establishing strategies for fostering human resources in the field of international cooperation in the field of climate technology responding to climate change 2. Approval of GCF Readiness Project for Cambodia's Low Carbon Traffic Conversion

Green Technology Center co-organized GCF Readiness** program with Cambodian Government in GCF Delivery Partner* capacity and received approval notification from GCF Investment Committee (development and approval of the first GCF Readiness proposal in Korea) * GCF Delivery Partner: An institution that conducts a developing country competency development support project, which is the first stage of the GCF project ** GCF Readiness: A program run by GCF to foster the ability of developing countries to respond to climate change, helping developing countries plan and strengthen their capabilities to promote GCF projects Research Overview As the first GCF delivery partner (DP) in Korea, it is necessary to develop its own methodology to derive technology-financial linkage strategies - Development of a framework for diagnosing climate technology cooperation in the energy and transportation sectors and presentation of financial linkage according to preparation plan to expand support projects for developing countries such as GCF Readiness and secure tools that can be used continuously in future projects Major achievements 1. Development of a roadmap for the spread of low-carbon transportation technology in Cambodia - Development of a policy and infrastructure development business model and financial linkage plan based on the preparation plan of climate technology cooperation and the analysis of the connection of climate resources for Cambodia's low-carbon transportation transition 2. Proposing GCF Readiness business and Deriving the first approval case in Korea - Submit a joint proposal for GCF Readiness business with the Cambodian government as a delivery partner ('21st half) - Final approval of the GCF Investment Committee project ('21.12)

Selected as an excellent institution for national statistics development and improvement in 2021

GTC was selected as an excellent institution in the field of statistical development and improvement in 2021 in accordance with efforts to improve climate technology industry statistics that includes information about institutions and enterprises who have climate technology patents Overview Climate technology industry statistics were developed as a national statistical development project in 2017 and published annually - Continuous improvement in statistical quality, such as expanding the scope of samples & survey items or moving up the timing of publication In recognition of the relevant contribution, the Statistics Korea selected GTC as an excellent institution for the development and improvement of national statistics in 2021 Detailed improvements Expanding the number of sample companies (1,000 companies → 2,000 companies) to improve statistical accuracy Changes in survey items considering the necessity of policies and the utilization of results data Changes in the actual conditions of technology development related to climate change and statistical tables to respond to policy demands Early Announcement of approximate version of statistics, etc

Support for 2021 P4G Seoul Summit

In cooperation with global leading organizations such as GGGI-WRI-GCF, GTC lead the preparation of the P4G Seoul Summit's official background document, present key policy contents such as the Seoul Declaration and the host country's official speech, and plan and Support the major events* within the summit schedule * Pre-P4G (sponsored by the MoFA), P4G Green Future Session (sponsored by the MoST), Business Forum (sponsored by the MoTIE), etc Overview The South Korean government held the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit in May to achieve the 2030 greenhouse gas reduction goal and jointly realize carbon neutrality in the international community - 677 major top leaders (46 top leaders and 21 heads of international organizations) around the world attended GTC closely supports the entire process from preparation to holding events through close cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies Major Achievement Support to secure South Korea's policy initiatives - General planning and preparation of 'Background Document', key official document that presents the background, theme, and direction of the summit - Lead the preparation of the "Seoul Declaration", the official results document of the summit, and present key contents of the "Presidential Speech." The Establishment of Taxonomy of Climate Change Adaptation Technology with UNEP-DTU Partnership

In collaboration with UNEP-DTU Partnership(UDP)*, GTC developed a technology classification system that can promote climate technology transfer activities to developing countries and provide matching information on technology demand and business * UNEP-DTU Partnership: An international organization related to climate change, jointly established by the UNEP and the Danish Institute of Technology, has been in charge of TNA projects since 2010 Overview GTC developed and published the 'Climate Technology Classification System' to collect and provide all the information necessary for technical cooperation ('17) UNEP-DTU Partnership continued to search ways to solve the chronic technology demand-supply information imbalance problem caused by the absence of a classification system in the process of operating the Technology Demand Assessment (TNA) Based on the same problem recognition, the two institutions collaborated to develop and jointly announced the 'International Classification System for Climate Change Response Technologies' that can be used as an international standard measure ('20.11) Major Achievement Under the supervision of GTC, textual analysis of the UNFCCC TNA report elicits technology-related information to categorize similar technologies and analyze the scope between technology categories Using Korea's 'Climate Technology Classification System' as a Reference Point for Adjusting Technology Scope and Optimizing it to the Characteristics of Developing Countries Development of 'International Classification System for Climate Change Response Technology' after verifying its usefulness, such as reviewing the applicability of TNA by UNEP-DTU Partnership Development of an international classification system that can be used globally by spreading Korea's 'climate technology classification system' Establishing bridgehead that can continuously contribute to the promotion of climate technology development and transfer in developing countries through the formation of partnerships with international organizations

Becoming the First GCF Readiness Delivery Partner in Korea

GTC has acquired delivery partner (DP)** qualifications from GCF for the first time in Korea, so that we are able to support for improving developing countries' climate technology capacity for green growth and contribute to improving access to UNFCCC financial mechanisms * GCF Readiness Program: A program that supports business planning and capacity building so that developing countries can promote GCF projects ** Delivery Partners: Partner organizations with proven capabilities for developing and implementing climate change capacity building projects to promote GCF Readiness projects Overview GCF Readiness is the support program for developing countries to enhance the GCF business development capabilities within the budget of $1 million per year. and it is implemented through a certification body or an institution with proven business development and execution capabilities - Detailed activities: strengthening NDA capabilities, Establishing national programs, Establishing national certification bodies, Developing business pipelines, etc. GTC has acquired of DP qualifications to promote technology-financial linkage and support the application and spread of promising domestic technologies in developing countries Major Achievements Proposing technology-financial linkage methods to the international community by revitalizing GCF linkage of technology cooperation such as Korea's CTCN TA project Raising international awareness and strengthening of expertise as a specialized institution for climate technology
