President Changmo Sung of Green Technology Center (GTC), elected as a new member of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) at the UNFCCC COP21

- As the first Korean member of the TEC, it is expected to consolidate the role of the Republic of Korea in the international community


President Changmo Sung of Green Technology Center (GTC)  was elected as a new member of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) at the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was held in Paris, France. 


President Sung, as the first Korean member of the TEC for the Asia and the Pacific region will serve a two-year term, beginning from 2016 to 2017. 


Established as a control tower to promote technology development and transfer for mitigation and adaptation on climate change, TEC is the policy-making body of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism to decide international initiatives for technology cooperation during biannual meetings with representatives from 20 countries among 196 UNFCCC Parties.


As the first Korean member to join the TEC, it is expected to enable more active participation by the Republic of Korea in the mechanism on technology cooperation under the UNFCCC, and therefore the Republic of Korea will consolidate its international role in science and technology, including technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.


Through these technology mechanisms, it is also expected to create new industry and market by expanding technology cooperation between domestic government-affiliated research institutes and private companies at national level, and furthermore cooperation among countries under the new climate regime expects to deliver various measures to reduce greenhouse gas emission. 


President Sung said, "I will make meaningful contributions to deal with climate change."
