Green Technology Center hosted a seminar on "Technology and Finance Linkage"


 


The Green Technology Center (GTC, President Changmo Sung), a research institute funded by the Ministry of Science, ICT & future Planning (Minister Yang-hee Choi) hosted a seminar on "Technology and Finance Linkage" in the "Green Living with Climate Technology" section in the Korean Exhibition during the UN COP21 on December 2nd.


Changmo Sung, the President of GTC emphasized in his congratulatory remarks that the key factor in technology transfer with developing countries is to appropriately utilize the essential core technologies in practical projects, and this requires the linkage between technology and finance.


The seminar had 2 sessions encompassing presentations in the first session and panel discussion in the second session.


In the first session, Professor Yongsung Cho from Korea University presented about the measures to utilize climate technologies and financing, followed by the presentations by the director of GTC, Hyoungju Kim, and Mr. Miles Austin, Deputy Director of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).


President Changmo Sung chaired the panel discussion in the second session where Mr. Odalis Martes, Special Advisor of the Dominican Republic Central bank, Mr. Karma Tshering, Member of Technology Committee and National Designated Entity (NDE) for global technology cooperation, and Mr. Jihwan Ahn, Senior Researcher of Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) participated as the panelists.


In addition to the panelists, technology and financial experts from home and abroad including officials from multilateral banks and delegations from both developing and developed countries also attended the seminar to participate in the discussion.


The discussion also focused on the possible measures to utilize financial mechanisms such as Green Climate Fund which was devised to promote international cooperation for developing countries for climate change response and various cases of the ongoing GTC projects that connects technology and finance were introduced.


A researcher from the Green Technology Center stated that "we are planning to continue our support to promote advanced linkage between climate technologies and finance in the future."


Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning will establish the "Global Technology Cooperation Center for Climate Change Response" to strengthen the international cooperation in climate technologies in the half of 2016.
